A textile collection can use a shared design language while offering different colour directions. Planning colourways means deciding how each version relates to the collection and how its colours will be reviewed on the intended fabric.
Establish the main palette Begin with a clear reference for the collection. Identify the background, leading motif and supporting accents. Give each colour a purpose so changing one shade does not unintentionally weaken the contrast or hide a detail. Keep reference files labelled with their version and intended use.
Review the artwork at its intended scale A colour combination that looks balanced in a small preview may feel different across a full fabric width. Review motif size, repeat spacing and the relationship between busy areas and quieter backgrounds. For placement prints, show how the artwork sits on the intended panel.
Discuss the fabric and process Share the fabric composition, construction and preparation status with the production team. Screen colours are a starting point for discussion, not a guarantee of a physical result. The fabric and selected printing route matter when assessing the final appearance.
Compare representative samples Review physical samples under agreed viewing conditions. Compare the overall impression as well as individual details. Record requested adjustments in one clear response and identify the version approved for the next stage. Avoid mixing comments from different versions without explaining which reference should take priority.
Future Fashion's in-house designers can help develop colour stories and print repeats. Send the artwork, intended fabric and colour references with your enquiry so the team can discuss design development and sampling requirements.
